Fremont, Ohio, is located on both sides of the Sandusky River, about 20 miles southwest of Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. The current population is around 16,000.

Due to its abundant natural resources and the strategic importance of the river, Fremont’s early history is rich with tales of frontier legends like Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton, and Tecumseh. During the War of 1812, Fort Stephenson was successfully defended by the U.S. Army against a British assault. The 19th President of the United States, Rutherford B. Hayes, called Fremont home and established the country’s first presidential library there.

Today, Fremont is home to the world’s largest ketchup plant. The Heinz facility produces millions of bottles of ketchup daily. Fremont’s downtown features classic architecture and vibrant businesses and serves as the heart of community life.
